We love running and travel, so why not combine the two into an amazing holiday? We've compiled our dream list of 10 of the world's best running events to add to your bucket list and get you motivated this year.
If you haven't already noticed from our instagram feed, the team at Liv Aktiv love Hawaii! So this one had to be at the top of our list, the Honolulu Marathon is 26.2 miles in paradise. Held in December every year, the course takes you along the famous Waikiki beach and up around the iconic Diamond Head. They kick it off in the dark of the early morning with fireworks!! They also have a 10km run for those looking for a shorter course.
2. Run Disney
Experience the most magical course on earth through Disney World in Florida. There's a few different events to choose from including the Disney Marathon in January, the Princess Half Marathon Event in February or the Dark Side Star Wars themed half marathon in April. Dress-ups for runners in these events are a must and add to the fun and atmosphere of the day.
3. City to Surf
This has to be our favourite fun run in Australia, which takes you from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach. The run is like one big party with lots of onlookers cheering you and the other 80,000 participants on. It's one of the largest runs in the world. After surviving heartbreak hill, seeing the ocean as you run down to Bondi Beach is the best feeling. It's 14km and takes place in August, add it to your list now.
If you're a runner and a wine lover, the Marathon Du Medoc is for you. The course takes you through the stunning vineyards of Chateau's in the Bordeaux wine region in France and you'll find wine, cheese and entertainment at the water stations. Don't expect a PB on this one!
One of the most challenging marathons in the world along the Great Wall of China. Expect to climb 5,164 steps over the course. Limited to 2,500 entrants, we recommend booking a package early if you plan to conquer this one. Entries close in April for the May event.
It claims to be the worlds first fun run which started in 1912. Bay to Breakers is a 12km run held annually in May in San Francisco.
Starting at the iconic Eiffel Tower and ending a the Palace of Versaille this is a 16km course not to be missed. The field is open to 25,000 participants and takes place in September. Oui, sign up now.
Running past Uluru and the Olga's in the Australian outback makes this once in a lifetime run. Courses of varying distances are available from 6km to the full marathon. It's held in the cooler month of July.
Not a marathon or a fun run, this is an iconic stair climb at the Empire State Building, New York. It's not the tallest anymore, but it still 1,576 steps up and a
Running down the Strip in Las Vegas under the lights of night to live rock n roll music is what this run is all about. It promises to bring the fun back to running with music at every mile. Held in November, this is sure to be one to remember.
